Winning Cars

The 2001 Solar Challenge was a good year for Kennedy. We won the first Concept Car competition ever held by EWEB. We also came in first place in the speed competition. Overall Kennedy entered 13 different cars in the challenge. There were a total of 110 cars from throughout the Eugene/Springfield area competing in this years competitions.

The winner of the 2001 Solar Car Speed Competition was a team from Kennedy. Take a close look at the chassis of this car. This car was extremely lightweight and had traction on the tires to help on the slick gym floor. These 6th graders took the lead in the race even while competing against 6th, 7th, and 8th graders throughout the Eugene/Springfield area. Way to go Kennedy!

Kennedy also won the first Concept Car competition ever held by EWEB. This car was built by a group of students in Mr. Long's classroom. Notice the fancy CD tires in back. Students had a lot of fun building these cars. Even though these cars didn't compete in the speed races, they were required to move 3 feet using only solar power.
