Building Our Cars

All 6th grade students at Kennedy get the chance to build solar cars during spring term in their math/science block class. As we build the cars students get introduced to forces and motion. Students work in teams of 3 or 4 to build a solar powered car. Supplies are provided by EWEB as part of their alternative energy education program. This year each class got to send one car to the competition for speed and another car for concept. Cars are raced on campus to determine the fastest car in each block class. Students vote on which concept car to send per block class. Students with winning cars go to the Solar Challenge at Monroe Middle School to compete against other schools from throughout the Eugene/Springfield area. This year there were 110 cars at the competition.
